Thanks, Bruce, for reminding me. You know, I posted the wrong name for my sixth grade teacher, it was Emma Van Etten, not Miss Burfield, who was seventh and eighth grades. I also remember Mrs. Christianson, whose husband, Chris, coached track at Curtis, and whose son was a classmate of mine. Mrs. Driscoll was my second grade teacher, and Mrs. Vandenhuevel third. Kindergarten was Mrs. Hammell, whose daughter, Nancy, became a friend after I'd grown up, that is, assuming I ever grew up. I remember daydreaming in Mrs. Van Etten's class about taking out Joe Stalin should he ever have the misfortune to visit SI. We had one bogeyman after another in those days, starting with Hitler, and they sure were real. It was Mrs. Van Etten who hated FDR. Mr. Stolzenthaler was physical ed teacher when the Korean War broke out, and was called up; we wrote letters asking for his defferal.
