SubTitle: Was fun!!

OK folks, here's the answers:
1. Dairy bought out or absorbed by Weissglass, named after a town.
Ans: New Dorp Dairy. Believe a family named Dorff were involved. Not
sure. Either way, my family knew both the Dorff's and the folks that owned
New Dorp Dairy. My recollection tells me it was the same family, but I could be wrong. No one got this:(
2. Bakery at end of Giffords Lane.
Ans. Holtermans. Gina got this one:)
3. Wooded area on left, heading to Al Deppe's from Gifford's Lane.
Ans. Fairyland. Was named for true meaning of word, not today's meaning.
No one got it:(
4. Best Hamburger place.
Ans: Bacci's. Duke was the first to get it:) See my explanation on that
on one of the Re:Re's after the question.
5. Name the movie theaters and the towns they were in.
Ans. I gotta admit, you guys came up with a couple I didn't remember, but I still stumped you on a couple.
Star- I did not remember this one, I do now, but still can't recall where it was.
Capitol- I draw a blank on this one. Don't remember it at all.
St. George- in St. George. This was the regal one. It's where we went when we actually wanted to watch the movie.
Paramount- Stapleton. Ah, one of my favorite passion pits. Who watched the movies. Also saw
a couple of Rock & Roll shows there. Remember Ramon "I ammmm the BRUCE!
from WNJR in New Jersey. Of course if you wanted to go to Alan Freed's
shows, you went to the Brooklyn Paramount. But that's another story.
Empire- Remembered it, but not where it was.
Ritz- Port Richmond. Went there a few times, but not often.
Lane- New Dorp. Ah, my other favorite passion pit. Actually it was quite a nice cozy little theater.
Victory- Tompkinsville. Went there a few times, but I remember it better
as a Bowling alley (Victory Lanes). Went there often then. Became one in the late 50s
when Bowling seemed to explode in popularity.
Drive-In- Remember it well, but believe it or not, never went there. In
N.Y. you had to be 18 to get a drivers license. I left and joined the Navy when I was 17.
I did come back with a car often after that, but it seemed we always had other
places to go.
Here's the ones nobody got:(
Strand - Nelson Ave in Great Kills. No balcony, but a bubble gum generation passion pit.
Staten - New Dorp Lane in New Dorp. Across the street and half a block
closer to the train tracks than the Lane. Was a carbon copy of the Strand.(Inside, not the lobby - The Strand
had a massive outer lobby.
I don't remember any in Tottenville, but that don't prove nothin'.
THANX GUYS! This was fun!!:)
