Hi Linda,
Happy to hear from you about the rides. I suspect (also) you have to be talking about South Beach. My memories of the place date from the middle 1940s. Sometime between 1943 and 1946 perhaps. (I was born in 1940). The ride I particularly remember from that time was a Parachute Jump. You sat on a seat like a swing and you were hoisted up this tall tower and when you reached the top, you were dropped and a parachute blossomed above you and floated you down to the ground again. Of course, there was a cable still attached to your swing-seat to slow the last part of your descent. I remember that a couple of popular songs at that time were, "Swinging on a Star" by Bing Crosby and "Pistol Packin Moma." I don't remember who the singer was for that last song. Nice memories, even if they were the War Years.
Later, probably in the middle-50s we went one day and rode the Bumper Cars for what seemed like hours. When we pulled out of the parking lot on the way home, my Dad nearly creamed another car, also pulling out. I guess he'd just gotten into the habit of aiming at other moving cars! :-0
I'm glad it's still in business as an amusement park. Is the boardwalk still there?
