Sorry about that Lee I guess we figure everyone knew where it is. Four Corners is the crossroad at Victory Blvd. and Manor Road. It used to be the end of the bus zone and the driver would collect another nickel before you could continue to ride. Either to Port Richmond or to the Ferry Terminal. I believe in my day it was the #5 bus. Oher lines also went through this at this site. To Travis or Sea View or the Manor Road Bus. etc.
It was the name of the neighborhood surrounding this intersection. If one continued down Victory Blvd towards Port Richmond there was another intersection at Jewett Ave. and Victory called Meirs Corners. It may have been spelled Meyers I do not remember.
I lived at Four Corners, Summers Lane, two blocks toward the Ferry from there and Hodges Place went in after that across the Blvd from Summers Lane. When I was a child in the thirties there were only open fields from Winthrop Place all the way to the Moravian Church at the place where Todt Hill Road dead ended at Victory. This is where the old iron mine diggings were that we called a cave and I have made Merlin's Cave in the Chronicles. Dan keeps confusing this with the cave at Clove Lakes Park. But then he is so many years younger than I. LOL
Public School 29 was our school for the neighborhood and the grades from about five through seven went to P.S.35 which was on Manor Road, then back to 29 to finish up and graduate.
