May I add a few of my own, since I am highly regarded as a connoisseur of fine eateries and respected evaluator of superior establishments: #1 - Roadhouse (Clove Rd.) - Pizza is very good! Order it with garlic. Service very good. Atmosphere a bit cramped. #2 - R.H. Tugs (Richmond Terrace) - The place to be on a Friday night after work. Nice/fun atmosphere. Large helpings. Courteous service. Wonderful sandwiches (try an Aunt Carmella's eggplant hero). Nachos Grande that is simply sinfully good. Always adding specials. Excellent pasta dishes. Keeps up with holiday themes. Crowd tends to get a bit noisy some time though. #3 - Bagelwich (Forest at Broadway): Simply the best bagels in NYC! Get there in the morning and you will always get one fresh out of the oven. Eat in or carry out. The sweet lady behind the counter will make you a breakfast sandwich on a roll or bagel (yummy!). The smell inside the place will drive you wild, just like Mom's kitchen in the morning. Service excellent. The only drawback is having to squeeze by the NYPD, NYFD and paramedics who frequent this place more than any other. #4 - Taste of India (New Dorp Ln.) - The best Indian food around! Waiters have the personality of Lurch on the Adams Family, but the overall atmosphere is really nice (decor and background music). Carnivores are advised to order the "mixed grill" (Tandor roasted chicken, beef, sausages w/crisp veggis on the side) Yummy, Yummy. Vegetarians have a wide variety of choices including a "create your own platter" selection. The mulagatawny soup is excellent, but don't ask the waiter what's in it, in fact they refuse to tell you how they make anything! If you want your wine chilled, make sure you tell them, or else you will get it at room temperature. Don't forget to grab a spoonfull of the anise seed after dinner concoction on the way out. #5 - Olympic Grill (Forest near the expressway) - Very good diner style selections. Waiters can be very courteous or not, depending on who you get. The souvalki (sp?) gyro platter is the best you'll find anywhere. Breakfast food very good, with the exception of the home fries (too many peppers and onions for the early morning tummy). Salads are very good (try the chicken pita bread salad with honey mustard or caesar dressing on the side). Bathrooms used to be ice cold, but they just recently put heaters inside. Beer served warm and to high priced for a diner.
