3 weeks ago, my husband and I bought a house. Its 35 years old.
We had a home inspection done and everything (electrical) was ok and
in good working order. Last night we went out to eat and when we came
back to the house we heard something upstairs. We stood still and
listened and come to find out it was our sons toy train. It was not
on when we left. We went upstairs and cut it off and just passed it
off as a freak accident (maybe something fell and cut it on.) Well we
got went to bed and about 2:00 am I woke up to a noise. Sleepy I
fist thought that the alarm clock was going off. After I woke up I
realized that the train was back on. Our son could not have cut it
on because he slept with us last night and he was still sound asleep.
My first reaction was that there was someone in the house. My husband
got up and cut the train off again and checked out the house, only to
find that we were the only ones inside. He brought the train into our
room and put it in the floor. I got up this morning after my husband
had left for work, took a shower, got out and was getting dressed. I
had the light on in the bedroom, the hallway and the closet. I had to
go into the attic (its a walk-in closet type of attic) to try and find
some pants that was still not unpacked when I came out the lights
were off in the bedroom, the hall and the closet, but still on in the
attic that I had just come out of. My son was still sound asleep. I
would have passed it off as a power outage, but the nightlight in the
hallway was on, the alarm clock was still on and fishtank was still
on. The light switches were all still in the on position. The lights
were all still on downstairs as well. The train and the lights could
not be connected, because the train is battery operated. This is a
little nerve racking. I checked to see if maybe a breaker had been
turned off, but they were all still on. Is it really possible that
there could be a ghost in the house? If so can they harm you other
than making you a nervous reck? What can we do if this type of thing
continues?
