Staten Island is a big waste of space.I have lived here all my life (29 years) and so have my parents. I grew up in New Dorp ,where my parents still reside. At 23yo I moved to West Brighton ,the good part,Harvest Avenue and Bement. Then to Oakwood for a year until finally moving to St. George for the last two years. I am now 29 I own a profitable contracting business, am educated, and will be married soon. I can tell you this about Staten Island. The people here are proud to a fault. They insist that no part of Staten Island change for better or worse and will deny beig a part of the most spectacular city in the world. This is the place where people have been shot over a parking space. Its greatest cultural contribution is Snug Harbor and it is dirty, poorly run, and under a constant state of construction. The art almost always is juvenile and no one goes there anyway. The south shore has two kinds of people , hicks that have been there for a hundred years and boneheads from Brooklyn whose real estate agents told them they'd never smell the dump there. It could be a thriving metropolitan community rich with culture and tourist attractions. It should be the perfect day trip from Manhattan.Instead, it is the playground of the controlling families of Staten Island politicians whose best interests lie in preserving the property value of the homes of the psuedo-socialites of Todt Hill and Annadale. The north shore is considered the bad part of Staten Island I guess because there are more people from other countries here and there are apartment buildings. The community boards make sure that it goes absolutely no further than that. After all it was they who who made it nearly impossible for the once thriving Bay St. night life to exist. Where should you live on Staten Island ? I don't know.
