Don't get, as a first dog, a purebreed. There are too many dogs
(and cats) put to death everyday because no one wants them. All of
my dogs have come from the pound and they were all muts, but loveable
ones that love my kids and cats. <p>I've had dogs all my life. My first one was a German Shepherd. It turned
out to be not too nice of a dog. He bid a kid in the back. He went to an
elderly couple that gave her her own room. All the others were mixed. Mostly
labs. I have Cookie and Oreo who are of lab mix (brother and sister) and
they are the best.<p>Good luck and I'm sure you'll pick the best one. Remember, go to the
local animal shelter.
