Your comments are not without merit. However, Archie is clearly the "buffoon". Edith is an airhead, but also presented as a fair, warm-hearted, under-estimated woman. Archie is the rude, intolarant bigot. He is almost always the "foil", while Edith, in her scatter-brained way, usually is proven right.
