I vote for German Shepherds. Although classed as a large dog, a true
GSD is not as large as many people believe. Males are typically 85lbs and
females about 65lbs. Any heavier is usually overfed. There are 11 categories
for rating canine characteristics such as intelligence, loyalty, endurance,
courage, confidence, scenting ability, etc. While shepherds do not place #1 in any
category, they are the ONLY dog that places fifth or higher (usually
2nd or 3rd) in ALL categories. Their overall rating is far higher than
any other dog.
I am somewhat of an amateur expert on this subject. I invite you to our
website (URL below) and check out some straight info regarding the GSD.
I too, strongly recommend that if all you want is a pet, have it either
spayed or neutered. At about 1 year to 18 months of age. With females
after the 1st cycle, but before the second.
Any questions, I will be glad to answer to the best of my ability.
Good luck and the best to you, whatever your choice. There is no better
friend or companion to the human species than the canine.
Charlie
What ever breed you choose, the initial puppy imprinting, how you treat it and
train it with have more bearing on it's behavior that any other factor.
