That particular radio spot rankles me, too. However, men being portrayed as the sit-com moron is nothing knew. More often than not the husband and father is the "buffoon" while the wife is the patient, long-suffering saint. I recall an episode of FATHER KNOWS BEST, from the 1950's, in which Robert Young actually complains about how television shows make the men seem silly and selfish. He then makes a fool of himself trying to prove them wrong. I LOVE LUCY is the only show that I can think of (off the top of my head) in which the wife is shown to be more goofy than the husband.
