I'm with you on this!!! America is part of the devine comedy but we would not have recognized it as such if it were not for Dante Allegheiri. Unless we are "Native Americans" all of us are ______ Americans. Remembering our origins helps us to understand our unique contributions to this diverse country. I am a 2nd generation Norwegian - American whose genes are "ekte Norsk." This in no way prevents me from being intensely patriotic for the land of my birth. We who recognize our roots have a richness of background that those who deny it do not.
Our daughter is adopted and she has known this as long as it has been possible to communicate with her. We notice now that she carries a photo of her birth mother with her along side pictures of her friends and us. I think she is lucky to have this knowledge because it brings strength. Knowledge and acceptance of our diverse National and Ethnic origins is also a source of strength.
