You reminded me that the science teacher was Mr. Attinson. He was a very smart and serious guy. He and Mrs. Loeffler, my Art Teacher, were my saviors. My first grade teacher labeled me "Mentally Retarded" because I had a great difficulty learning to read. I have been mildly dyslexic all my life but the Label of Mentally retarded was not removed until Attinson and Loeffler argued in my favor. I was moved from the 4 class to the 2 class in the 4th grade. I guess they thought it was generous of them to move me to the 2 class. When I got to the 8th grade I took an IQ test. It came out very high so they scheduled another. On the day I took the second IQ test I had lobar pneumonia, a 103 fever and was halucinating. My IQ was 102. That satisfied them so when I went to high school they placed me with "remedial students" I stayed with them until I won a NY Regents Scholarship and was a finalist in the National Merit Scholar Program. It has been great from the time I got away from primary and secondary school but sometimes I think they were right and I really am retarded. I just know what I can be good at and I stay away from those things that challenge me. Oops! Just running off at the mouth again.
