East Tenafly Association, I think you really need to get all the facts together about "the organization" running the group home first. It may be a very respectable one. You chose to live in your community because of the safety issues and such, don't you think that is what is in the best interest of the group home. Instead of dumping them all in the bad neighborhoods shouldn't they have a shot living in a good neighborhood. Regarding building and zoning laws that should all be followed to the letter. I think you may be surprised by the residents that move in. I lived around the corner from a group home in "South East" Annadale. Honestely I didn't even know it existed. As far as traffic goes, it would not bring in much more than if it were a family with a couple of teenagers. Do you know how many persons are going to be living there from what my experience with them is it is usually 2 maybe 3 case workers on site. As a mother I understand the communities concern with childrens safety but gee every time someone buys a home don't you wonder about them too??? I now live in a high transition area and we have 3 homes for sale I am concerned about who buys them, but I can't stop it. We need to supervise our kids 125% of the time. I would just urge your association to really look into all the details before closing the door on what could be the best type of neighbors you can have. Just think "they" will be supervised all the time.
