Lucas, Hi! I moved here 5 years ago when I got married. Apartments can vary greatly depending on which part of the Island you want to live on and if you ant to live in an apt. in a 2 family home or a condo or an apartment building. You can probably figure on spending $500 - $700 a month for a studio to a 3 1/2 room apt. Cigarettes cost about 2.50 a pack. I work right over the bridge in New Jersey so I buy them there for $2.00 a pack - fill up with gas there also - it's about 25 cents cheaper a gallon because of the different tax structure between states. Beer is something I would also go to NJ for to avoid the 5 cents per can deposit fee - that way I don't need to return the cans to get my nickel back - but beer should cost about $3.50 for a 6 of Bud. If you are interested in finding an apartment when you move here my husband is a real estate agent and can help you out. If you give me more specifics on where on the island you want to live (eg. close to Manhatten or close to NJ) I can give you more detailed answers - although Staten Island is only 7 miles long you are really never far from anything. A used car resale really isn't any different in Staten Island than what the NADA book quotes for resale. I - personally would drive to Pennsylvania or NJ to buy one because of the less wear and tear a car gets with highway miles vs. city driving. Bye,
Lisa
