EAST TENAFLY AVENUE BLOCK ASSOCIATION
March 21, 1998
The residents of East Tenafly Avenue and the surrounding community are urging Community Board #3 to vote AGAINST the proposed group home at East Tenafly Avenue on March 24, 1998.
The Association for the help of retarded children - N.Y.C chapter in conjunction with the N.Y.S O.M.R.D.D. has proposed to establish a community residential facility for five mentally challenged adults and three individuals in the Respite program.
The Residents of East Tenafly Avenue are AGAINST the A.H.R.C. proposed group home. The residents of East Tenafly Avenue and the surrounding community also expressed opposition by signing a petition AGAINST this facility. A copy of this petition will be hand delivered to Community Board #3 on Monday, March 23, 1998.
East Tenafly Avenue is a small dead-end block, consisting of several small children ranging from toddlers to teenagers. This community already has a group home within approximately ¼ mile of the proposed facility. This group home will greatly threaten the well being of our community. The proposed facility will house five mentally challenged adults and three individuals in the respite program. There will also be staff members and visitors, encouraging more traffic while exposing unfamiliar individuals on a regular basis to our children and community. Returning home to this small community is a safe haven/retreat away from the commercial, unpredictable and the busy outside world.
The Residents of East Tenafly Avenue and residents of the surrounding community are AGAINST this proposal and we urge Community Board #3 to vote AGAINST this group home.
Community Board # 3 will be hold a Public General Board Meeting on the proposed group home. It is urgent that we all attend this meeting to protect the well being of our community.
