Information & History about:

The Adobe Blues & Killmeyer's Old Bavarian Inn
==============================================

So where did this phenomenon known as the Adobe Blues restaurant and bar come from? It was the combined efforts of Staten Island's Jim Stayoch and Ken Tirado that brought it about, and none too soon! Jim and Ken, both huge fans of Tex-Mex, found the lack of REAL TEX-MEX on the island unbearable, so off they went to create the Adobe. After several trips to New Mexico for "the real stuff," they found the site for the Adobe at 63 Lafayette; they renovated and restored it to its present beauty. Then, with abundant experience in theater design (they founded and managed Staten Island's No Empty Space Theater from (1985-1992), they completed the transformation with true Tex-Mex style from their travels, including some fantastic pieces in the bar. Rounding this off with their authentic and hearty fare and an amazing list of over 250 beers and over 30 tequilas, they have become one of Staten Island's premier establishments. The restaurant and bar are now frequented by a devoted following of all ages and walks, from St. John's students, to the thank-God-it's-five-o'clock crowd, to local families, to well-known figures like Susan Molinari. Among their other community activities, their well known beer club, Monday Night Football, and trips to the NY Beer Festival have made Adobe Blues a center of Staten Island's daily social life.

Now, with Killmeyer's Old Bavarian Inn, they are expanding to the other shore to the area between Rossville and Tottenville known as Charleston, at 4254 Arthur Kill Road. Ken and Jim have restored the original 1855 building, uncovering its beautiful tin ceiling and original fireplaces, as well as the original mahogany bar carved here in New York in 1890. This past March they travelled to Germany to research the food, drink and decor. The result? Killmeyer's opens its bar January 26 with 50 beers from Germany, a sampling of beers from bordering countries, and a selection of German Schnapps and liqueurs. The restaurant is scheduled for opening this spring, and a Bavarian Beer Garden this summer. With Jim and Ken's care and dedication to the communities their establishments inhabit, Killmeyer's is sure to do for the South Shore what the Adobe has done for the North!
