This may sound like a joke,but it is not I have been an auto mechanic for over forty years , and I have seen a lot of strange things related to the automobile in that time. The most humorous event however occured about twenty five years ago after I had replaced the water pump on an MG sports car. About three days after the car had been returned to the customer, he called to inform me that the new water pump had started to leak. He said that there was a puddle of antifreez on the garage floor directly below the pump. He was reluctant to drive the car back to my shop due to the possibility of overheating the engine. I agreed to stop by his house on my way home that evening and take a look to deterime what was leaking. When I arrived, the MG was setting in the garage with the bonnet(hood) raised and there was in fact a puddle of colored liquid on the floor under the engine. After I examined the water pump and found no evidence of a leak , we both got down on our knees to look under the car; me on one side and he on the other. He immediately reached over and dipped his fingers in the puddle and proceeded to touch the liquid to the tip of his tongue, and proclaimed with conviction "antifreeze ,see there antifreeze" At that moment, almost as if on Que , and with total disregard for her audience, a little white fluffy dog came into the garage from the back yard and went under the car and proceeded to make another colored liquid deposit of an equal amount in the same spot. With almost super human effort of self control not to laugh out loud and perhaps roll around on the floor, I was able to stand up and with dignified behavior say "Well, if you have any more problems , give me a call"
I drove almost a block before I had to stop because I couldn't see the road any more and people were starting to look at the crazy man driving down the road laughing and pounding on the steering wheel.
P.S. Although this customer had been bringing his cars to me for several years , I never did see him again after that day.
