No, but I do remember during the early days of WW II my mom & I were shopping in Great Kills. there was a radio report that German bombers were heading towards N.Y. All the shops closed & people ran home. We lived in Eltingville & as we were nearing our house we could hear the sound of an aircraft. We spent some time in the basement & finally there was a radio report that the previous bulletin had been false.
There were German U-boats off the east coast & I remember seeing footage of at least on ship that was torpedoed within sight of land. Don't remember what state.
